Dear Friends and Supporters:
We have just concluded a very challenging, and in many aspects a very disappointing state legislative session. However, it was also a session with several successes and hopes for the future.

I serve as the ranking republican member on the powerful State House Appropriations Committee. I was disappointed to see the democrats pass, and the Governor sign, the largest budget in our state’s history. This budget increases state government spending by over 17 percent. It is unsustainable, and was not a good faith effort on behalf of the people.

Instead of being leaders and making the tough decisions, the democrats played games with the budget process to avoid living within the spending limits you the people established through the initiative process.

The key to protecting your taxpayer dollars is to have someone who will be a leader in Olympia. I want to be there to ensure that there is a voice of reason and integrity in future State budgets.

I am ready to return to the legislature to lead an economic recovery to Southwest Washington and to meet the challenges that lie ahead, hopefully from a majority position. I need your fi nancial help today to continue to represent the 20th Legislative District. It is important that I solidify my campaign funding now so I can focus my attention on
serving you.

I now serve as a part of the House republican leadership team in the areas of budget, pensions, health care, and performance auditing. This leadership will be critical to the success of Thurston and Lewis counties, and the entire State, as we address the issues of budgets, jobs, health care, pensions, transportation, and regulatory reform next
year.

There were several successes in the recent session. I was a leader and sponsored legislation to improve election efficiency and accuracy. Our voice was important in passing legislation for tougher penalties on sex offenders, supporting our children in successfully passing the WASL, and ensuring that our senior citizens have access to quality
long-term care facilities in their local communities. I was very pleased to be honored one of the top three job-makers in the House of Representatives by the Association of Washington Business.

My legislative goals are unchanged: creating family-wage jobs in our local communities, rebuilding a private health care system that offers affordable choices, education reform, and a sustainable state budget that is honest, based on the priorities of government, and encourages good performance.

It is an honor to serve you in the legislature. Proper respect and trust for being a leader in the State House of Representatives comes with a strong commitment to making good public policy. To reinforce this strength, I am asking for your fi nancial support to help me launch a strong re-election campaign.
Thank you,
Gary Alexander
